As a liberal democrat I am sometimes embarrassed by what some of my leaders say. They do say stupid things sometimes. However, I would have liked to have heard the rest of the sound clip. I think it might have been taken out of context.
Either way, the response by most democratic leaders about the killing of Zarqawi was positive. Almost every one of them praised the military and said it was great that he was dead. A 15 second radio clip cannot be used as a broadbrush for all democrats.
I have yet heard any of my democrat friends say "Man, I am sad that Zarqawi is dead." They are more likely to say, "It's great, now we might be able to leave after losing 2500 American lives."
So, is this person still a vice-chair of the DNC? It's not as if this were some minor party functionary committing a gaffe.
